“The Suit Club” — A Column by Masahiro Takaki, General Affairs Department, Okudaya Giken

We held an event called the “Suit Gathering” on Saturday, April 19th of this year.
Though we call it a “gathering,” it wasn’t anything official—
It all started with a casual idea:
“Wouldn’t it be fun to intentionally wear suits, like gentlemen’s attire, and go out for a meal on our day off?”
The members were:
Mr. Akama and Mr. Yamaguchi from Manufacturing Section 1, Pump & Cylinder Division,
Mr. Munakata from Manufacturing Section 2, Special Equipment Division,

and I, Takaki from the General Affairs Department, who is also writing this article.
We even went so far as to create a formal-looking invitation, just for fun.

We met at the nearest station at 11:00 a.m.
We snapped a photo on the platform—everyone looked sharp and perfectly dressed for the occasion.

The suit and shirt Mr. Munakata is wearing were actually picked out in advance with me (Takaki), specifically for this gathering.
This time, we’re hoping to find some nice accessories if we come across any…
Our destination, reached by transferring trains, was the Semba Center Building.
Located in the heart of Honmachi, Osaka, this retro-style building stretches a full kilometer from east to west, lined with apparel shops, offices, and a wide variety of other stores, all retaining a nostalgic Showa-era charm.
By the time we arrived, it was already lunchtime.
First things first—let’s eat!
And most importantly: Cheers, ASAP!

The restaurant we chose is one I often visit.
Their lunch set meals are affordable, delicious, and offer a wide variety of options.

This is the “Semba Set Meal” I ordered this time.
The main dish is battera—pressed mackerel sushi, a specialty of Osaka.
Once we finished our meal, we began exploring the shops.
First, Mr. Munakata picked out a tie and put it on right away.
Next, Mr. Yamaguchi and I headed to an accessories shop to get a belt.

We also got our clothing sizes measured.

We strolled through Semba Building, picking up bags, shoes, and accessories along the way.
To wrap things up, we took a commemorative photo in front of Building No. 9 along Midosuji Street.

After shopping, it was time for the highlight of the day—dinner.
A drink after a long walk always tastes extra good!

Since we ordered crab gratin, we did a crab pose!

Since we ordered clams, we did a clam pose!

The briefcase you bought looks great, too.

The highlight is the wooden handle—it has such a unique charm!
And with that, it was time to head home.
We took a commemorative photo on the platform.

We had a wonderful time together.
We’re hoping to hold the next “Suit Gathering” around November, this time to look for some fall and winter items.
Oh—and I just realized I don’t have any photos of myself!
Before we parted ways, Mr. Munakata kindly took a photo of me at the station.
That’s how the day went!

I’ll be sure to write again if something interesting happens.
Thank you for reading all the way to the end!
