Full Moon of Mid-Autumn, Together Towards a Beautiful Future

As the autumn air thickens and a refreshing breeze blows, the annual Mid-Autumn Festival arrives as promised. Mid-Autumn, a traditional Chinese festival with a history of a thousand years, falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, and is named “Mid-Autumn” because it is exactly in the middle of the three autumn months.

The Mid-Autumn moon is the clearest, brightest, and fullest of the year, symbolizing reunion, perfection, and prosperity. Coinciding with the season of abundant harvests, the Mid-Autumn Festival has become an important holiday for people to give thanks for the harvest, gather with family, express their yearning, and wish for a beautiful future.

When speaking of the yearning and romance of Mid-Autumn, the Northern Song literary giant Su Shi understood it most profoundly. His immortal lines, “May we all be blessed with longevity, to share the beauty of this graceful moon even thousands of miles apart,” express the purest hopes of the people. Even if separated by mountains and seas, unable to gather with loved ones, people can still bathe in the light of the same bright moon, wishing each other well and safe year after year. This gentle romance uses the bright moon as a bond, crossing the distances of mountains and rivers to connect human longing. It is worth mentioning that Su Shi had a deep connection with Changzhou, visiting this fertile land south of the Yangtze River more than ten times over thirty years. He eventually spent his last days there, leaving this sentiment of gazing at the moon and longing for loved ones on the land of Changzhou.

Moon gazing is also an eternal and core custom of the Mid-Autumn Festival. On the night of Mid-Autumn, the sky is clear and a bright moon hangs high, casting its soft, water-like light over branches and eaves. Families gather and sit together in the courtyard to admire the full moon. On the table, mooncakes, fruits, and osmanthus snacks complement each other beautifully. People express their feelings while looking at the moon, chat about their daily lives, and send their longing from afar. Entrusting their wishes to the bright moonlight, people cherish the present company of family while also keeping distant relatives and close friends in their thoughts, harboring a unique Chinese warmth and poetic grace.

As time passes and eras change, although the traditional rituals of the Mid-Autumn Festival have gradually become simpler, the core of reunion and perfection remains unchanged. A thousand years ago, Su Shi expressed his feelings under the moon, entrusting his longing to the bright moon and navigating life with an open and optimistic mind. Today, Mid-Autumn is still a gentle pause in our busy lives, allowing us to set aside our hustle, cherish the company of loved ones, and be grateful for our encounters. Whether we are in China, Japan, or Malaysia, holding different positions in different regions, people’s shared hopes for a complete, peaceful, and beautiful life are always connected. Just as the bright moon crosses mountains and seas, it gently blesses everyone striving for a better life.

The bright moon knows no boundaries, and our beautiful wishes unite our hearts. On this joyous occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we sincerely wish all colleagues of the Group at home and abroad a peaceful and healthy Mid-Autumn, joy for your families, and perfection in all things! May we bathe in the clear moonlight together year after year, work hand in hand with one heart, and gather our strength to march toward a better future!
