Album I Was Into Back Then:⑤Everyone is Normal(GESU NO KIWAMI OTOME.(Lowest Lowest Girl))

Introduction

I’m Konno from the OKUDAYA CONNECT management team.
Last time, for the 4th article of “Music Albums I Was Hooked On Back Then,” I brought up  (Perfume).

When I was a student, I used to explore around and listen to all sorts of music, but since entering the working world, I simply haven’t had the same luxury of time. Another major factor is that I’ve moved away, which has reduced the opportunities to spend time with friends I originally connected with through music.

While I do still listen to music at home, it’s strictly the music I’ve “always listened to.”
I no longer do things like going to rental shops to look for new CDs.

My Only Source of Info: The Car Radio

Due to the nature of my job back then, I drove around a lot, and I pretty much always just left the FM radio (Kiss FM KOBE) playing in the background.
My favorite DJ was Mr. Tarzan Yamashita.
His talking skills were great, of course, but his personality was just fantastic.
I think he had this lovable quality that made you think, “When I get older, I want to be this kind of middle-aged guy.”

At the time, “Killer Ball” (by GESU NO KIWAMI OTOME. (Lowest Lowest Girl) was being heavily pushed as a highly recommended track.
When I first heard the band’s name, my reaction was literally “?”, but the moment the song started playing, I was completely in a state of “!?”

The bass, drum, and keyboard performances were fantastic, of course, but I was totally blown away by the upbeat tempo and how incredibly catchy it was.
It was a track that made me think, “I need to hit up a CD shop for the first time in ages!” True to form, I headed straight to the CD store immediately after.

In reality, though, there weren’t actually any CD shops within running distance.

However, the album I’m introducing this time isn’t Odorenai nara, Gesu ni natte shimae yo (If You Can’t Dance, Just Become a Gesu), the one that features “Killer Ball,” but rather, this one:

Album Title: Everybody is Normal (Minna Normal)
Artist Name: GESU NO KIWAMI OTOME.(Lowest Lowest Girl)

This is the mini-album released after Odorenai nara, Gesu ni natte shimae yo.

While “Killer Ball” is definitely a song I like, I actually preferred the tracks featured on this album.
The lead track “Parallel Spec,” “Normal Atama,” “Yurerukareru”… My absolute favorite among them was “Yurerukareru.”

As is the case with “Killer Ball,” when it comes to GESU NO KIWAMI OTOME.(Lowest Lowest Girl), I personally prefer their songs that don’t feature a guitar.
In a band that actually has a guitar, you’d normally be tempted to just naturally toss it into the arrangement.
The fact that they can make a track sound this incredibly cool without adding it is just so impressive—I remember being completely struck with a, “Whoa, that’s amazing…”

Speaking of Mr. Enon Kawatani, he ended up standing out for better or worse when the media heavily covered him back in 2016.
However, seeing how he continues his musical activities in various forms today and remains highly regarded, it really makes me think lately, “He truly was an amazing talent after all.”

I highly recommend you all give it a listen, too!
